Eating Disorder and Vagus Nerve

Vagus Nerve

Vagal Pathophysiology in Bulimia Nervosa

Our lab has collected solid evidence implicating the vagus nerve as a major factor in perpetuating binge eating and vomiting in bulimia nervosa. Two major approaches were used to investigate the role of the vagus nerve. One approach was stabilizing the vagus nerve using a drug, Zofran®, and the second was vagal nerve stimulation therapy.
