Summer Program

The Early Risers Summer Program is offered for several weeks during the summer months. Program goals seek to enrich each child's academic and social development and improve emotional competence and behavioral adjustment. The summer program provides opportunities to: 1. improve reading skills and to make reading fun and interesting for children, 2. learn key social skills that are necessary for making and keeping friendships, 3. experience various creative arts experiences that promote feelings of accomplishment and positive self-esteem. Moreover, extending program activities into the summer months provides continuity of training with less potential for setbacks and behavioral regression.

Each day children are required to receive one hour each of

  • Academic enrichment activities

  • Social skills education and training

  • Creative arts experiences

[Supplementary education, arts, and recreational activities may be added at the discretion of the host site]

Additional strategies and activities are implemented to support program goals.  They include:

  • Point System to reinforce positive behavior

  • Buddy System to encourage association with prosocial peers and friendship-making

  • Field Trips to promote community-building

  • School-Home Note to enhance communication between staff and family

  • Family Events to encourage bonding to the Early Risers Program
