Ken C. Winters, Ph.D.

Director of the Center for Adolescent Substance Abuse Research
Dr. Winters received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1977 and his Ph.D. in Psychology (Clinical) from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1982.
Primarily funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Dr. Winters’ research has focused on the assessment and treatment of adolescent drug abuse.
Other research interests include the root causes of addiction and problem gambling. Dr. Winters has published numerous articles in the area of addictions in journals such as the Journal of Studies on Alcohol, Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, and Journal of Gambling Studies. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Gambling Studies and the Journal of Adolescent Substance Abuse. He is a consultant to many organizations, including the Hazelden Foundation, National Institute on Drug Abuse, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and the World Health Organization. His previous experience includes appointments as a research scientist at Stony Brook and a staff psychologist at a community mental health center.
