Dr. William Meller

William Meller, M.D.
Associate Professor

He is the Associate Director of Psychiatry Residency Training.  Graduated from Medical School at the University of Minnesota and finished his adult psychiatry residency and child psychiatry fellowship at the University of Iowa before returning to join the faculty of the University of Minnesota in 1988.

His major clinical interest is the treatment of severe affective disorders and his main research interests revolve around the neuroendocrinology of depression. Recent publications include “Luteinizing hormone pulse characteristics in depressed women” for The American Journal of Psychiatry (investigating the hypothalamic pituitary gonadal axis and a possible association between depression and infertility); in collaboration with Dr. Carrie Borchardt, “Symptoms of affective disorder in pre-adolescent vs. adolescent inpatients” in the Journal of Adolescence and “Comorbidity of major depression and conduct disorder” in the Journal of Affective Disorders.  His training interests include teaching primary care providers to appropriately recognize and treat major depressive disorder.
