Buchanan, Ellen M.D.


Ellen Buchanan, M.D.
Assistant Professor

A graduate of the University of Illinois Medical School, completing a psychiatry residency training program and a child & adolescent fellowship at Michael Reese Hospital in Chicago.  Dr. Buchanan matriculated at the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis.  Following this training, she completed an Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship for two years at the University of Minnesota. 

Current interests include dual diagnosis, including addiction cases, and complicated special chemical dependency populations.  Dr. Buchanan is an instructor in substance abuse for medical students, psychiatry residents, and fellows.   She is a consultant for Hazelden Center for youth and Families specializing in dual disorders for chemically dependent teenagers.  She is also developing a seminar on Spirituality and Mental Health with the Curriculum Committee.
