Year Three

(PGY-3):

The third year fulfills ACGME requirements for 12 months of continuous outpatient psychiatric experience, combining diverse elements of psychotherapy and psychopharmacologic treatments.  This experience is primarily centered at the FUMC Outpatient Clinic.

The psychotherapy and continuity of care clinics started during the second year are continued, and the outpatient experience is enhanced by significant increases in both the number of both outpatient evaluations and follow-up visits.  Skills are developed for both short-term and longer-term case management.  Experience in group therapy, forensic psychiatry and community psychiatry are built into the 12 months.  Residents rotate through specialty clinics in schizophrenia and eating disorders.  Opportunities to participate in outpatient child psychiatry are also available.
