Brown Bag

January 3, 2007

Announcements:

  • Dr. David Page, CEO of Fairview Systems, has announced his retirement. A search firm has begun and will completed by July, 2007
  • As part of reorganization, UMPhysicians has promoted Patti Arnold to Chief Operating Officer.
  • Bobbie Daniels, MD will be the Head of Maple Grove Ambulatory Clinic.

Dr. Curdue reviewed the new plan for Inpatient Rotation which went into effect on January 2. The adult service will now be the only admitting service on Station #22. The two teams will now be called Maroon and Gold. Dr. Curdue will be working to finalize the adult service schedule. She asked for any physicians available to fill in monthly slots to contact Beth Madson.

Dr. Schulz announced that there will be Neurosciences retreat on Friday, January 12. Dean Powell has requested the Neuroscience Department Head present a plan for the future. This retreat will be for the purpose of working toward developing a strategic plan for the new Neurosciences Center. Dr. Schulz handed out Neuroscience surveys for the faculty to fill out to assist in the retreat process. Please return the surveys to Beth when completed.

Dr. Schulz described his luncheon meeting with Dr. Tom Insel, Director of NIMH. There are many challenges NIMH faces, including funding, a shortage of physician investigators, and public mental health. To see his Special Report, go to http://www.nimh.nih.gov/about/dirupdate_acnp06.pdf.

Because of the substantial number of items in the agenda, new opportunities in telemedicine were not discussed. Faculty interested in this may contact Dr. George Realmuto.

Dr. Curdue will utilize the next Brown Bag time, January 17, for a meeting of faculty involved in clinical work.
