Highlights of Brown Bag Meeting – September 6, 2006

Dr. Schulz announced that there would be an all Department Meeting, September 27, 2006 at 11:00 am in the Brennan Center. Dr. Schulz said that he is planning on having these meetings quarterly in order to facilitate the process of relating Departmental information to all faculty and support staff.
Mike Nemcek reported that all personnel will be receiving an HIPPA training announcement. This is required training for all staff. If you have trouble accessing the site, please contact John Hopwood.
Dr. Mackenzie reported the following upcoming events:
- The “traditional call schedule” for child is still in effect.
- M & M conferences will be held monthly – check the website for presentation titles.
- Resident site review 10/3. Betty will be contacting faculty to set up interview times for resident candidates, please be accommodating.
Dr. Curdue thanked the faculty for their patience during the current changeover of the EMR system to Allscripts.
Dr. Lim reported that on 10/1 all grants would be submitted to the NIH electronically.
Faculty should note the following information items:
- A handout entitled “Mitigating the Malpractice Crisis Through Expectation Management is being placed in your mailboxes. As this is part of the UMP Risk Management Incentive plan is it vital that faculty review this handout.
- Diversity fellowships are being offered through the Ford Foundation for those planning a career in teaching and research, contact P. Mulcahy. NIH is requesting comments regarding the idea of limiting appendix material in grant applications. To submit your comments go to: http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfi_files/rfi_appendix_add.htm
- VA is in the process of forming a search committee for Dr. Nightingale’s replacement. Our faculty may be asked to participate.
Mary Hensley, our Center Director, reported that Ms. Twila Jensen has been hired as the new Finance Director for our center.
The faculty approved Joshua Newman, MD, from the Wilder Center, as an adjunct Assistant Professor.
